Let's Go Fly A Kite...!

These KITES are super adorable...!
I had the kids peel the paper off of old crayons, while I made a kite pattern. I then used a copier and copied that pattern onto 3 other cardstock papers. With an Exacto kinfe, we cut the middle parts out of the cardstock kite.
I got a handtowel and put it on top of our ironing board. I then put a long piece of waxed paper on top of the towel.
With a knife, you can use a grater as well, I cut the crayons into tiny pieces. I just grate them on top of the waxed paper. Fold the waxed paper in half. With the iron set on low, I ironed the crayons inside the waxed paper. The kids picked out what colors they wanted for their own kites.
We then put double sided tape onto the kite cardstock and attached the waxed crayon paper. The kids cut the remaining waxed paper that was outside of the kite pattern. With a hole punch, we punched holes in the bottom of the kites. The kids picked out what color yarn to put in the hole of their kites and then taped them to the window!
They have been singing "Let's Go Fly A Kite" since we hung them up!

*To use this idea in a classroom, you can also use clear contact paper and tissue paper squares for the middle part*

this is lovely! I think that it will look great too in other shapes, like a butterfly (spring), flower or even an easteregg!
Thanks for sharing!

I love this idea, and my kids like taking the paper off of crayons. I just need to figure out where I put my iron...
